Outsource Blogging: Signs It’s Time & How to Hire Support

Blogging and website SEO are the top marketing channels for ROI in 2026. But do you have time to implement a strategy that actually works? If not, it might be time to outsource blogging.

Outsource Blogging: Signs It's Time & How to Hire Support

As an SEO writer and consultant, I’ve written over two thousand blog articles for my own blog and for clients. But it’s not just about writing articles. It’s about implementing a strategy that actually drives traffic and leads.

In this article, I’ll share signs it’s time for you to outsource blog writing and how to find support that’s worth investing in.

What does it mean to outsource blogging?

When you outsource blogging, you hand off your blog content to someone else. For some business owners, that means hiring a freelance writer for one-off posts here and there. For others, it means working with a blog manager who helps you create a strategy for long-term results, including keyword research, writing, publishing, and performance tracking.

Signs It’s Time to Outsource Blogging

Not sure if you're ready to outsource blog writing? It's probably time if you:

  • Don't have consistent time to dedicate to blogging - Between running your business and everything else on your plate, blogging tends to be the first thing that gets pushed aside — even though a consistent publishing schedule is what makes it work.

  • Want to show up on Google and AI search but aren't sure how - Ranking takes more than writing a few articles here and there. It requires keyword research, SEO formatting, and content designed for how people are searching today.

  • Already have a blog, but it's not bringing in traffic or leads - If you're publishing without a clear strategy, your content may not be reaching the right audience or encouraging them to take action.

  • Want to start a blog but don't know where to begin - Between choosing topics, understanding SEO, and figuring out a posting schedule, getting started can feel overwhelming.

  • Writing isn't your strength, or you just don't enjoy it - Not only is blogging a strategic process, but it also requires creativity and writing skills. If this isn’t your strength, it can make the process difficult to do and stick to.

  • Would rather spend your time on other parts of your business - Even if you can write, that doesn't mean you can’t outsource. As business owners know, there’s a lot to keep up with, so your time might be better spent elsewhere.

Where to Find a Blog Writer

Once you've decided to outsource blogging services, the next step is finding the right person.

Here are a few places to look for blogging support:

  • Freelance platforms - Sites like Upwork or Contra let you browse writer profiles and portfolios.

  • Social media - Many freelancers and companies share their work and services on platforms like LinkedIn and Threads.

  • Google - You can search phrases like "blogging services" or "blog management" to find writers who are already optimizing for search themselves.

  • Referrals - Ask other business owners who outsource blogging services to share their experiences.

What to Look for When Outsourcing Blogging

There are a lot of people offering blogging services, which means there are lots of options. But how do you figure out who’s worth hiring? Here’s what to look for.

Reviews and Results

Look for testimonials, case studies, or examples of past client results. A writer who can share actual growth they’ve helped clients achieve is a good sign they know what they’re doing. And reading about their clients’ experiences lets you know what it might be like to work together.

For example, I started a blogging strategy for this client last year, and she saw a 301% increase in traffic in the first six months:

A 5-star Google review stating the reviewer's website traffic increased by 301% since working with Polly Clover Writes.

What Their Services Include

Ask directly what their blogging support includes and make sure it aligns with what you’re looking for.

For example, my full-service blogging support includes:

  • Brand research - Learn about your offers, goals, and audience

  • Content audit - See how your existing content is performing and identify gaps

  • Content strategy - Research keywords and competitors to create a focused roadmap

  • Blog content - Write SEO and AI-friendly articles for visibility and helpful content for trust and action

  • Blog maintenance - Monitor performance to stay on track and make updates as needed

Whether They Understand SEO and AI Search

Great writing alone isn't enough for a successful strategy. When you outsource blogging, you need to look for someone who understands SEO and AI search. This gives your blog articles the best chance to actually be found.

You can ask potential blog writers  about their knowledge of SEO and AI search, and how they optimize their content.

Be mindful of blog writers who guarantee specific results since this is beyond our control. Instead, they should be able to tell you the strategies they use for the best ranking opportunities. Bonus points if they can share experiences where they’ve helped clients show up on Google and AI tools.

If They Take Time to Learn Your Brand

The best blog article sounds like you and speaks directly to your audience, which requires research on their end. Be wary of anyone who wants to start writing without first learning about your brand, offers, and goals.

You can ask them what their process is for working together and how they prepare to write articles for clients. For example, I share an e-questionnaire with all new clients to learn more about your brand. I also do my own brand and competitor research before I start a new blog strategy.

Communication Style and Turnaround Expectations

Knowing how communication and turnaround works sets expectations upfront and ensures you’re both on the same page. Every blog writer or manager should be able to share:

  • How often you’ll communicate

  • What platform(s) you’ll communicate through

  • What the blogging schedule will be

  • How many revisions are offered and how this process works

For example, I communicate with my clients via email and promise a response time within two business days. A blogging schedule depends on the monthly article count and my client’s unique needs. I also offer up to two revisions for each article, where my clients can share feedback and revision requests via the Google doc where I share content. This process may look different for other blogging services.

Outsource Blogging: FAQs

Is it worth it to outsource blogging?

For most business owners, yes. Blogging takes consistent time and an intentional strategy to actually bring in traffic and leads. This can be difficult to manage and stay consistent with while running your business.

It also requires unique skills you may not have. If you’d like to learn more about DIYing your blog strategy, check out my SEO blogging course.

Should I hire a freelancer or agency?

It depends on your budget and what you’d like your working relationship to look like. Freelancers typically offer more personalized attention and lower rates since there's no agency overhead. Agencies can handle higher volumes of content, but you'll often work with multiple people instead of one consistent point of contact, and rates tend to run higher.

Most small business owners and service providers work with a freelancer who offers full-service blog management, which gives the best of both worlds.

How much does it cost to hire a blog writer?

A recent survey of freelance bloggers found that blog posts can cost up to $1,500 each, though 47% of writers charge between $100 and $399 per post. Exact rates depend on the blog writer’s experience and what’s included in the services.

What do blogging services include?

This depends on who you hire. Some writers simply send you blog content for you to add to your site. Others offer full-service blogging, handling everything from strategy and keyword research, to writing and publishing directly to your website.

When you’re looking to outsource blog writing, be sure to ask what’s included and ensure you’re on the same page before hiring.
